Abstract:

Experimental emotion research could benefit greatly from empirical investigations driven by clear-cut conceptual and theoretical fundaments. However, only few emotion theories provide concrete descriptions and predictions with regards to the process of the elicitation and differentiation of emotion episodes. The component process model (CPM) provides a conceptual integration of the whole emotion process by specifying the relation between a particular appraisal result and the pattern of resulting physiological, expressive and motivational changes. In this chapter we present the most recent version of the CPM and the empirical verification of some of the predictions.
