The NCCR funding instrument requires that members conduct research of outstanding, internationally recognized quality, and actively foster knowledge and technology transfer, training, and the promotion of women researchers. In addition, the NCCR is expected to help globally restructure and improve the organization of Swiss research. In line with these overarching goals, we have defined the following concrete objectives for our Centre:
Scientific research in the behavioral, human, and social sciences
- To foster the establishment of a truly interdisciplinary network of researchers studying affective phenomena, both nationally and internationally
- To address the phenomena of affect and emotion for the first time in a systematic and integrated way, on multiple levels of analysis, based on well-developed theoretical frameworks
- To conduct cutting-edge research on emotion, using advanced methodology drawn from all pertinent disciplines
Academic education and research training
- To create internationally competitive centres of excellence in research on affective phenomena at Swiss universities
- To increase the critical mass of excellent researchers with interdisciplinary training and a strong motivation for networking
- To further the academic advancement of women based on an analysis of motivational and emotional career determinants
Knowledge transfer and application in society
- To identify means for a realistic transfer and application of scientific understanding of emotional phenomena to concerned professionals and the public at large
- To provide pertinent data and insights as an orientation for political, social, and economic decisions
