POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN VOCAL EMOTION ASSESSMENT

The Swiss Center for the Affective Sciences invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the area of the acoustical analysis of emotion in voice and speech. Applications from the following disciplines will be considered: Physiology and psychology of voice and speech production, acoustic measurement in engineering and computer sciences, phonetics.

The Swiss Center for Affective Sciences (www.affective-sciences.org) is an interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with the University of Geneva. Its mandate is to study all aspects of human emotion, including psychological and physiological determinants of emotional communication.

Together with the Geneva Emotion Research Group, the centre has developed a large corpus of emotional portrayals called GEMEP (GEneva Multimodal Emotion Portrayals). The analysis of the corpus and its subsequent use in experimentation and clinical testing will result in a better understanding of the processes involved in the communication of emotion. As part of the ongoing work on the corpus, the postdoctoral researcher will participate in the development of leading edge methods to analyze the vocal material in the corpus, particularly voice quality.

The postdoctoral fellow will also be expected to collaborate in other ongoing research on emotional expression in voice and music as well as develop her/his own research interests.

The fellowship requires demonstrated competence and research experience in acoustic voice analysis as well as interests in neurological and biological bases of voice and speech, phonetics, speech and music, and the study of emotion. Excellent mastery of English is required, some knowledge of French is an advantage.

The salary for the position corresponds to the position of a post-doctoral researcher as fixed by the University of Geneva (CHF 64'000-72'000 per year. depending on experience). This is a full time position, to be filled as soon as possible.
