Prof Didier Grandjean was interviewed about a study of Prof Bryan Gick and PhD student Donald Derrick (University of British Columbia, Vancouver) published in Nature on November, 30. According this study, humans use their whole bodies, not just their ears, to understand speech.

The Expression of emotions in man and animals

Dr Marc Mehu, Dr Benoît Bediou and Nele Dael, researchers members of the GEneva Multimodal Emotion Portrayals (GEMEP), co-organized the realization of the exhibition The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animal and 8 workshops with the Natural Science Museum in Geneva (Muséum d'Histoire naturelle). This Exhibition will be held from October 13, 2009 to February 7, 2010 at the Muséum d’histoire naturelle, Route de Malagnou 1, 1208 Genève.

Thanks to current researches, manufacturers of perfumes and cosmetic products are interested in better knowing the neurons influences on wellbeing. Dr Sylvain Delplanque coordinates a research program on emotion and olfaction which is supported by Firmenich, the Geneva-based producer of perfumery and flavours.

Stigmata at the International Museum of the Red Cross, Geneva

Organised and produced by the Musée de l’Elysée, Stigmata presents the work of seven contemporary photographers from different parts of the world working on people and places dealing with situations of crisis. The NCCR Affective Sciences participated in this exhibition by organizing conferences and debates.

La Confédération s'interdit à tort de faire la promotion du don d'organes

A recent publicity campaign by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) regarding organ donation has been surprisingly neutral in tone. It shows the unwillingness of the Federal government to promote the practice of organ donation, even though an international protocol urges it to be more active. This newspaper article appeared in connection with a colloquium on emotion and persuasion in organ donation policy.

Memory of facial emotions

August 2009

On 11 August 2009, an article ("Notre cerveau garde en mémoire l'émotion exprimée par un visage") on Pascal Vrticka's research on the memory of facial emotions was published in the Tribune de Genève. The results prove that one remembers the first emotion induced by a face.
