In August 2008, P. Vrticka and colleagues published a PLOS One article that investigates how context can change the interpretation of emotional stimuli. This article received a large media coverage.
Katia Schenkel, who is a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Affective Sciences, and some of her colleagues provided expert input to TSR (Télévision suisse romande) during the Euro 2008 soccer championship, analyzing three emotionally intense situations in football: gestures peculiar to individual players, called "emblems", penalty shots and issuing of red cards. Three documentary programmes, one on each of these topics, were broadcast by TSR during the playing of the championship in Switzerland.
